What is Nissan?

Nissan is a Japanese car manufacturer that was founded in 1933. They were formerly called Datsun but changed their name in 1986. Nissan’s engines are famously durable and have won several industry awards; the GT-R won multiple Car of the Year awards and is considered to be the fastest street-legal car.

Yet they are also the biggest manufacturer of electric cars, their most famous model being the Leaf, which is considered to be the most environmentally-friendly car going. Nissan formed an alliance with French manufacturer Renault in 1999.

Popular Nissan Models

There are 50 insurance groups that cars fall into. Generally, the higher the group, the more expensive insurance is:

  • Nissan Micra – now in its fifth generation, the Micra is an affordable option for those in the high-risk insurance category. Engines sizes are small meaning they’re cheaper to insure while being more environmentally-friendly. They fall into car insurance groups 5-11, so are certainly lower-end and lower-risk for insurers.
  • Nissan Qashqai – the Qashqai cleans up when it comes to awards, including bagging a Best Medium Family Car Award. It falls into car insurance groups 13-21, so it’s possible to find cheap cover. Plus, it’s pretty fuel-efficient and extremely comfortable.
  • Nissan GT-R – how could we not talk about the GT-R? Each engine is built and assembled by hand. All specifications fall into car insurance group 50 and tend to have engines of 3.8 litres upwards, so cheap Nissan insurance is unlikely with this model. One can dream though, hey?

How to Get Cheaper Nissan insurance

Tightening security on your vehicle can help make your insurance cheaper. You can bring down your premium by installing anti-theft devices or parking your car off-road.

Also consider how much you drive and whether your mileage could be reduced, as this in turn will lower your quote. Leading on from this, you could even look to adding another driver to your policy. Just check that the vehicle usage will be shared with someone who is a low-risk driver (if you were to add someone with multiple driving offences it’s pretty likely you’d see your quote soar!).

Here’s a lesser-known nugget of wisdom, too. Certain professions demand people use their vehicle in different ways and this can affect premiums. Jobs requiring a lot of mobility, city driving or night driving can all increase your quote. But in this vein, very similar jobs – such as a painter and a decorator – can also retrieve notable differences in car insurance quotes.

We don’t know exactly why this is, but insurance is all about risk and statistics. If your job can accurately – and we stress accurately – be described by another title, see if it brings your quote down when you compare Nissan car insurance deals. However, being dishonest about your profession is fraudulent and can lead to your policy being invalidated.
