The Golf is a definitive benchmark for the whole automobile industry, not just its manufacturer Volkswagen.
The all-new Golf launched in 2020, is the most technically advanced and up-to-date version ever produced, whilst still preserving the premium quality and feel that has become synonymous with the model.
As it stands, the latest iteration of the Golf already has enough in its arsenal to make it a serious contender for the best compact hatchback, but with more engines and tech soon to be released, it really is one to consider if you’re in the market for a smaller car.
The various different models and versions of the Volkswagen Golf fall into quite a wide range of insurance groups. The 1.2 TSI Bluemotion Tech S 3d falls into group 7, making it on the cheaper side to insure, whereas the beefy R 2.0 TSI can be classed as high as group 39, costing considerably more for an annual policy.
The average annual premium to insure a Volkswagen Golf with a comprehensive policy is:
Annual payment: £808.40*
Monthly payment: £77.03*

When the Volkswagen Golf was tested in 2019 by Euro NCAP it was given a 5/5 safety rating. It was commended for having excellent front and lateral crash protection for passengers, and was given a 95% score for adult occupant safety.
As for safety features, the Volkswagen Golf has Front Assist to alert the driver of any obstructions or bumps in the way, and Pedestrian Monitoring and City Emergency Braking to stop the car if its ever in danger of a collision.
The compact sports version of the Golf delivers a spectacular 245PS with its 2.0 i TSI engine that can take just 6.4 seconds to take you to 62mph from standstill. All that power under the hood can help you reach a restricted top speed of 155mph, but you won’t just have to stick to straight roads as the stability-aiding front differential lock can help you enjoy windy country roads too.
The new Golf 8 is the first model to feature Volkswagen’s e-TSI engine. The e-TSI contains mild-hybrid technology, and uses a lithium-ion battery to drive the engine at lower speeds to reduce emissions and fuel consumption dramatically. The energy from coasting and braking is also harnessed to recharge the battery, giving you even more efficiency and lower running costs.
