Shop around for car insurance, drivers urged

Motorists should shop around to ensure they get a good car insurance deal, an expert has said.

Graeme Trudgill from the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (Biba) stated that car insurance premiums have risen in recent years due to rising costs incurred by lenders.

However, he urged drivers to ask for advice on new deals instead of simply accepting price hikes.

“Don’t just accept it on the chin. You might have hit a certain age or your car might be one year older, which gets you an extra discount, or you might have moved house,” remarked Mr Trudgehill, who is the technical and corporate affairs executive at Biba.

Some insurers may not be increasing the cost of their rates as much as other companies, he said.

According to the AA, the average car insurance premium has increased by six per cent to £682 a year over the last 12 months.
