npower have been forced to supply energy to around 1,000 customers free of charge. This comes about as a result of their failure to deal with the complaints of these account holders within 28 days.
The Energy Ombudsman has supported these customers in their interactions with npower by applying pressure to the energy company. npower have now agreed to clear all debts that are currently on these accounts and also to give them energy free of charge until any rulings have been reached.
Ofgem and the Energy Ombudsman took action to force Npower to come to this agreement.
The energy company has now said it will be writing to the customers affected to address their complaints – most of which were about being billed incorrectly. Ofgem revealed that Npower received more complaints than any other energy company in 2014.
Scottish Power were pressured into a 12-day sales ban in March after falling short of Ofgem’s customer service targets.
