Car insurance buyers ‘should not just focus on price’

When looking for car insurance, drivers should not be tempted to focus entirely on price, it has been suggested.

Peter Staddon, head of technical services at the British Insurance Brokers’ Association, explained that there are other more pressing factors to be considered.

The content of the cover is more important when deciding on which company to use, he stated.

Mr Staddon advised car owners to speak to an insurance broker in order to assess their no claims bonus and what can be done to preserve it.

Another tip he offered, particularly aimed at younger drivers, was to look at the car group rating, while assessing the model of car and any modifications that have been made to it.

“You need to concentrate on the cover not the price,” he remarked.

Research from Mintel has recently revealed that some 77 per cent of British drivers are shopping around before renewing their car insurance policies.

The study showed that 45 per cent of motorists compare at least three quotes before purchasing.
