Norwich & Peterborough Building Society has launched a competition to promote environmentally friendly housing.
The building society is awarding £5,000 for the most eco-friendly self-built home in the competition which is open to all homeowners as well as N & P mortgage customers.
The judges will be looking for energy saving features such as water recycling systems, energy efficient central heating and good home insulation.
Norwich & Peterborough also have a range of green mortgages in their carbon neutral mortgage range.
The building society plants 40 trees over five years for every home that is mortgaged or re-mortgaged with a carbon neutral mortgage.
It is estimated that over time, the trees will offset the carbon dioxide emissions caused by the normal energy use in an average home, effectively making the property carbon neutral for five years.
