Homeowners in the UK are spending half their lives working just to cover their mortgage costs, claims a report by The One account.
And after covering their mortgage payments, 60 per cent then take on overtime so that they can afford the lifestyles that they aspire to.
The constant pressures of the rat race are having a knock on effect on the UK’s quality of life, with 49 per cent saying that they no longer have time to pursue their interests.
Another 44 per cent said that work was having a detrimental effect on their love life, and 29 per cent say that they do not get enough sleep.
“British homeowners are finding the work-life balance increasingly difficult to deal with,” said Debbie Milsom, spokeswoman for The One account.
“People are so busy focusing on job security that they don’t have time to look after themselves or even maintain an active life outside work.”
Two fifths of homeowners said that they are unable to spend as much time as they would like keeping fit, and almost a third say that they resort to unhealthy convenience food because they don’t have time to cook.
Many homeowners also admit that they are still with a mortgage deal when the offer that they originally joined for has expired.
Many could find that simply going online to find the best mortgage deal could offer them substantial mortgage savings over the course of a year.
