More than two million mortgage borrowers are unhappy with the customer service provided by their lender, it has been revealed.
And 20 per cent more consumers expressed dissatisfaction in this year’s Checkmyfile.co.uk mortgages survey than in a 2006 poll.
Barclays was second from bottom in terms of customer satisfaction this year – an improvement on last year, when it came last.
For the second year in a row, Northern Rock and Nationwide were rated top for customer service.
Barry Stamp, joint managing director of Checkmyfile.co.uk, said consumers may have an “over inflated” opinion of their lender’s customer service, as interest rates, mortgage arrears and repossessions “are still at very low levels”.
As a result, “most mortgage customers will have had very little contact with their lender”, he claimed.
In related news, the Building Societies Association has said that 2006 was a “god year” for the sector and predicted a similarly strong performance in the coming 12 months.
