Monday ‘was worst for accidents’

Yesterday (December 21st) could have been the worst day of the year for accidents, according to AA Insurance.

Car insurance customers made over 500 calls to the company by 17:30 GMT, it noted, a situation it attributed to the snowy weather.

This was twice the number for a normal Monday in winter and the most for a day since February 2nd, when the 24-hour period saw 800 calls.

Staff at the organisation stated: “The phone hasn’t stopped ringing and we’re going absolutely flat-out, claim volumes increasing as the evening sets in as customers come to grief in the arctic conditions.”

Those keen on getting a better car insurance deal may wish to check what the provisions are for accidents caused by winter weather.

Earlier this week, the same company said that the tally of calls to its office by 11:30 GMT on December 18th was 381, compared with the average of 291 by that time on a typical winter Friday.
