Caravan owners in the heart of the country should be extra vigilant with news their vehicles are most likely to be stolen.
Simon Douglas, head of AA caravan insurance, says ten per cent more caravans get pinched in the Midlands than anywhere else in the country.
He says: “The triangle of trouble is drawn along the popular motorway network of the M6, M42 and M1 which provide quick getaway routes for thieves.”
In total, around 4,000 British caravans go missing every year, according to the insurance company, with only a quarter ever recovered by police.
A steady rise of mobile home thefts from storage sites also points to an increase in pre-meditated crimes, whereby caravans are stolen to order.
The statistics should come as a wake-up call to all vehicle owners without proper motoring insurance. In Cambridgeshire alone new data suggested 15,000 vehicles are without cover, the Cambridge News recently reported.
