Lloyds TSB has announced that its credit and debit card customers will now be able to take advantage of a cardless loyalty programme with sports firm Reward.
Reward is the largest sports loyalty company in Europe and has a particular focus on football.
The agreement means that customers will be able to gather points without having to carry a plastic reward card.
All customers have to do is register their points details with a football club and they will automatically be added to their account when they spend money in participating outlets.
Each £1 spent will earn between one and 20 points which can then be traded for unique prizes such as memorabilia, tickets and special events such as shoot-outs with players.
Fashion outlets, pubs, off-licences, cinemas restaurants, petrol stations and DIY stores will be taking part alongside many others, said Kevin Coles of Lloyds TSB.
“We’ve all had loyalty cards in the past and forgotten to use them, missing out on lots of collection opportunities,” he said.
“This is a new and exciting development in the way customers are rewarded, giving them something of unique value that money can’t buy, funded through everyday spending.
“The new process also avoids slowing down the payment process at the point of sale.”
