‘Keep credit card details safe’

National Identity Fraud Protection Week began on October 16th 2006 and credit card holders are being advised on how to ensure their personal information does not fall into the wrong hands.

New research has found that 46 per cent of households throw away items that display all of their bank details, including the sort code or credit card number.

Fellowes, which specialises in document shredding equipment, also found that 48 per cent of households discard documents that give fraudsters all they need to steal someone’s identity.

As part of the ID theft prevention week, a number of tips have been offered by the organisers in order to lower the risk of identity theft.

These include checking your credit report to ensure no accounts have been set up in your name, shredding all documents containing sensitive information and keeping track of your credit card billing cycles.
