The company, which specialises in insuring those aged over 50, gained the accolade in the 2009 Driver Power survey, run by Auto Express.
It noted that 20,000 people voted in the exercise, which assessed insurers on various aspects of their product offerings and service quality.
Auto Express stated: “With all sorts from mechanical breakdown cover to funeral planning via its website, RIAS offers a range of services that’s tough to beat.”
RIAS managing director Janet Connor remarked: “To be voted as one of the top providers in the market by consumers, the people who really matter, is a huge achievement.”
As well as seeking good price and service from car insurers, buyers should also make sure they haggle over the price of the vehicle itself, Sainsbury’s Finance suggested this week.
It said doing so could save British motorists £229 million over the next six months.
