Holiday homes ‘make good investments’

Holiday homes in the UK offer a good investment, an industry expert has said.

The owner of the South Hams branch of rental website Coastal Property Search Geoff O’Neill remarked: “The idea of a holiday home – particularly when prices are depressed in the way they are – looks like a good investment.”

Such purchases have “good potential” for success, provided they are done on a long-term basis, he stated.

Those looking to invest this way may wish to shop around for the best mortgage, or a remortgage if existing housing equity is to be used to fund a purchase.

Recent research by property portal Nestoria.co.uk found that South Hams had the highest rate of price increase of any holiday resort in England over the past year, with values up 14 per cent.

The Scottish resort of Thurso saw the greatest jump in the whole of the UK at 45 per cent.
