Drivers heading abroad urged to check car insurance

Motorists eager to take a trip to the continent this bank holiday weekend have been advised to consult their car insurance policy before embarking on their holiday.

Independent financial data collection and research company Defaqto has warned drivers that they may not be covered for all eventualities while driving abroad under their current policy.

Consultant for general insurance at Defaqto Mike Powell stated that it is often stipulated in the terms and conditions of a policy that motorists speak to their insurer before they drive abroad.

“A lot of policyholders assume that if they have a comprehensive car insurance policy, they will be provided with the same cover when driving abroad, but this is not the case,” he said.

Recently, the British Insurance Brokers’ Association stated that a car’s grouping and not its eco-friendly features affect the price of car insurance premiums.
