Those with debt management issues should look to deal with them as soon as they arise, in order to stop them becoming overwhelming, an expert has said.
Marking the start of Advice Week – which starts today and runs up to October 19th – chief executive of Citizens Advice David Harker said seeking help and a resolution quickly can often be crucial in avoiding further consequences.
The charity gave examples of how getting assistance early on has prevented people from suffering fates such as repossession or eviction.
Mr Harker commented: “The earlier on an issue is identified, the easier it is to resolve.”
While many people in the UK have debt management problems, the overall increase in the rise of personal liabilities has slowed, according to recently produced figures from Credit Action.
These revealed that there was a 0.1 per cent fall in the year-year rise in debt between June and July this year, leaving the total owed at £1,457 billion.
