Current accounts accessible by new mobile service

A new service from Alliance & Leicester is set to provide customers with access to their current account via a mobile phone.

Monilink aims to allow current account holders to securely view balance enquiries and mini statements on their phone, alongside a phone credit top-up facility.

The high street bank is also offering assurance that the service is safe and secure, as any financial details ñ which are deleted immediately after being viewed ñ can only be accessed via a personal password.

Ian Tandy, Alliance & Leicester’s director of ecommerce, underlined the progression in personal banking that Monilink represents.

“The mobile phone is already a central tool in people’s everyday livesÖaccessing banking details via a mobile phone is the next natural step and one we think our current account customers will embrace,” he said.

Customers already have access to automated or voice-activated telephone services which can give information regarding current accounts via voice calls, such as Lloyds TSB’s Phone Bank Express.
