Charity credit card raises £1.5 million

The Halifax has announced that three charities are to share in a £1.5 million donation raised through its charity credit card scheme.

Cancer Research UK, Mencap and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children are the charities benefiting from the latest donation.

A £20 donation is made by the Halifax to charity when a customer first uses the card and the chosen charity then receives 25p for every £100 spent.

The card is also competitive, with Halifax saying that it offers one of the most attractive introductory offers going. There is no interest to be paid on purchases or balance transfers during the first six months, so cardholders receive a good deal as well as contributing to worthy causes.

After this initial period, the typical rate of interest is 16.9 per cent.

Ian Corfield, head of card services, commented: “We’re delighted to be able to continue to support these three charities. Charity credit cards are an ideal way for customers to help their chosen charity on an ongoing basis.”

Over £18 million has been raised through the Halifax charity credit card since 1988, making it the most successful charity credit card available.
