UK consumers have been urged to re-examine bank accounts that may have lain dormant for some time.
The British Bankers’ Association (BBA) said that this Easter is the perfect time for them to undertake a spring clean of their finances, dusting off old accounts as they may still have some cash contained within.
Customers can contact their bank at any time to reactivate the account, with some having been deactivated due to changes in address or other breakdowns in communications, the body noted.
Angela Knight, chief executive of the BBA, commented: “Why not take the opportunity over the Easter break to seek it [an old account] out … it might not be a huge nest egg but it’s your money and you’re entitled to it.”
Last month, the BBA claimed that banks are a concerted effort to ensure that all individuals have access to financial services, with more bank and Post Office accounts opening as a result.
