The highest rise in asking prices during the month of October for six years has taken place, according to property firm Rightmove.co.uk.
Its monthly figures for the amount sellers want for their homes put the average at £230,184, up £6,188 – or 2.8 per cent – from September’s figure of £223,996.
Such a jump comes after a 0.6 per cent increase last month, while August saw a dip of 2.3 per cent.
The October surge means 0.2 per cent more is being asked for the average home now when compared to 12 months ago.
Another survey finding was that the majority of people anticipate further increases, while by comparison only one in ten believe prices will fall.
Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors figures for September also suggested values are going up.
It found that 22 per cent more of its members saw a rise in prices during the month than witnessed a drop, compared with a positive balance of ten per cent in August.
