Scheme includes debt help

07 December 2009

A new financial education scheme launched by the East of England Development Agency (EADA) will include debt management training among its elements.

The East of England Financial Capability and Inclusion Project - which has received European Union funding - will be run by Citizens Advice and partly focus on helping the jobless get back into work, but will also deal with debt management issues.

EADA board member Sheila Childerhouse commented: "Skills and attitudes towards money management are important in every aspect of people's lives, especially in these tough economic times."

Issues of debt management may also apply to those who are in work, with the Child Poverty Action Group noting last week that having a job does not guarantee against poverty.

The charity made this observation after research published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation showed that 2.1 million children in working families live below the poverty line - the highest figure since records began.
