Consumers urged "to shop around" for credit cards

As a number of fee and rate increases hits the credit card market, it is "more important than ever" that people shop around for a good deal, according to Which?.

The consumer body advised that consumers need to check any increases have not "crept in" on their card and that the deal is right for them.

As people spend more in the run-up to Christmas it is more important than ever for consumers to shop around for credit card offers, said Cathy Neal, senior researcher for Which?.

She explained: "We're still feeling the fallout of the credit crisis and I think we're still going to be feeling the repercussions into 2008. So it's more important than ever that people shop around regularly."

According to Ms Neal, consumers need to check their interest rates and fees every two months to ensure they are getting the best deal for them.

Despite a third of Brits claiming that their money is tighter this year because of the credit crunch, 76 per cent plan to spend the same amount or more on Christmas as they did last year, reports
