What do I need?

E.ON look set to break new ground by bringing down the costs of prepayment meters to match those of standard energy tariffs as part of a new pilot scheme aimed at equalising the energy market.

Following a freedom of information request from BBC Radio 5 Live, Ofgem have released figures showing that the number of forcibly installed pre-payment energy meters has gone up by around 50% since 2009, the year when these figures first became available.

The independent energy provider First Utility have argued that all energy suppliers should be compelled to do away with standard variable tariffs. At present, of all the customers with the big six energy firms, just below 70% of them are on this type of tariff and are therefore being overcharged £235 per annum.
