Green energy plans praised
29/04/2010
The green energy plans of the Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties have been praised by environmental group Friends of the Earth (FOTE).
FOTE welcomed pledges made by the two parties to help householders and communities to benefit more from green electricity schemes, which will enhance the recently introduced feed-in tariff that allows householders to earn money from home-produced green power fed into the national grid.
Director of the group Andy Atkins said: "The Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives have put forward welcome proposals for making the feed-in tariff scheme more ambitious and ensuring that more of our electricity comes from safe, clean sources.
He praised Labour for introducing the plan but said the party has failed to offer any further developments.
Consumers who are able to use some green energy to power their own homes and also earn cash from the feed-in tariff may find this greatly reduces their energy bills.
Earlier this month, business and technology consultants Logica argued that the only way to ensure consumers take the green option in their homes and economic behaviour is to make it the cheapest option.
