Searching for the best offers on mortgages, loans, current accounts and credit cards has been identified as one of the top New Year's resolutions people can make to help them get their finances in order.
Four "golden" resolutions have been put together by Halifax to aid people in sorting out their money matters in 2009.
They consist of shopping around for the best financial deals, becoming a regular saver, overpaying mortgages and pension planning.
While the festive season is normally associated with spending, saving is at the forefront of people's minds this year due to the credit crunch, the firm noted.
Karen Crowshaw, the director of financial services for the company, commented: "In light of the recent financial climate, it has never been more important to seek out the best product deals available."
Recently, a survey from Alliance & Leicester revealed that 31 million people managed to add to their savings in 2008, despite challenging conditions.
