The Lloyds Banking Group gained the most customer complaints in the past year, new figures from the Financial Ombudsman Service revealed.
Among these were 9,952 complaints aimed at Lloyds TSB alone, of which 4,693 concerned banking and credit matters and a further 54 were to do with mortgages and home finance.
Bank of Scotland attracted 7,349 complaints, including 5,908 about banking and credit and 486 in the mortgages and household finance category.
Among other banks, Barclays attracted 9,836 cases, while HSBC and Abbey did better, with 3,048 and 2,983 for Abbey.
The number of complaints received about the other semi-nationalised bank - Royal Bank of Scotland - was 2,557.
Having been bailed out by taxpayers, the Lloyds Group has continued to deal with the bad debts that got it into trouble initially.
It has just revealed a £6.3 billion loss last year, compared with £6.7 billion in 2008, although bad debts rose to £24 billion.
