Over three million Brits are set to take advantage of introductory balance transfer deals on credit cards at the start of the New Year, research has revealed.
More than £7 billion is expected to be shifted between credit cards in the first three months of 2009, according to Abbey.
This is something of a New Year tradition, the firm noted, as last year around £8 million was transferred during the same period.
People aged between 25-34 are the most likely to switch credit cards, while the 55-64 age group are the least likely, the survey showed.
And those in northern England and Scotland are the most likely in the country to do so, it added.
Head of credit cards for Abbey Callum Gibson commented: "By transferring a credit card balance to a card with a zero per cent introductory offer, consumers can ensure they are managing their finances as effectively as possible."
