An alarming 54% of drivers admit to irresponsible habits while behind the wheel, increasing the risk of an accident. While relevant motor insurance is obviously required, many could also benefit from comparing life insurance for peace of mind, too.
The Department of Transport revealed 59% of us break speed limits in 30mph zones and, unsurprisingly, Co-operative Insurance research shows that drivers are most likely to do this when they are running late.
Eating and drinking was found to be the biggest distraction which 53% admitted to doing whilst driving, followed by 12% admitting to smoking, 11% getting organised for a meeting, 7% on a mobile and 6% putting on makeup.
"Life is undoubtedly faster paced than it has ever been before with technology and goods and services available around the clock which has ultimately led to cultural changes in the way people live, work and as the research has revealed; drive,” said The Co-operative Insurance Function Leader Grant Mitchell.
“We believe that driving is a privilege and with that privilege comes responsibility.”
Research from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) revealed 1 in 10 vehicles in the London Metropolitan area are estimated to be driven by uninsured drivers, suggesting that Londoners are twice as likely to be involved in a crash with a non-insured car. The risk of death or serious injury when involved in an accident with an uninsured car could have a significant impact on your family finances, which is why many consumers are increasingly comparing life insurance online to provide an additional safety net.
There are still 1.5 million on Britain’s roads, and last year 194,000 people were convicted for uninsured driving – equating to one ever three minutes.
