Britons 'feel financially insecure'

29/04/2010

Many Britons feel financially insecure despite the end of the recession, with debt being a major reason for their concerns, new research has found.

A study by Scottish widows found that 36 per cent of Britons feel they are not doing enough for their financial security, while 24 per cent fear the consequences of neglecting this more than anything else in their life.

Over one in five - 22 per cent - said debt is the main barrier to feeling financially secure.

Savings expert at Scottish Widows Alison Morris remarked: "Our financial security, savings and jobs are suffering as we struggle to prioritise what really matters when it comes to financial stability."

She advised that increasing savings is the best way to ensure financial security in the future.

Last week, chief executive of financial services provider ING Direct Johan de Witt, said that consumers are showing signs of being "determined to rebuild their savings" at present.
