British motorists 'like to be green'
26/02/2010
Car insurance customers are increasingly willing to go green when it comes to getting their next car, research has found. A study carried out on behalf of communications consultancy Automotive PR found that 62 per cent of motorists believe they will own a hybrid or electric car in the future. The survey also found that 54 per cent of motorists are concerned about climate change, whereas only nine per cent believe it is not happening. In addition to this, 82 per cent of motorists said that they make the greenest choice all or most of the time. The body noted these details after the government announced it will offer a £5,000 incentive per motorist to buy a low-emission car from 2011. Automotive PR's findings contrast with those of AXA Insurance, which found that British car insurance customers are less green than their European counterparts. It found that 84 per cent of UK motorists drive every day, compared to 76 per cent of Europeans. However, AXA marketing director Tina Shortle said the situation may be due to the lack of good public transport alternatives in Britain.
