MoneyExpert.com - CIH: More housing advice needed - 25/03/2008

In order to avoid potential financial difficulties, more people should be offered housing advice, according to the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH).

The call comes from chief executive Sarah Webb, who has explained that advice can be used to help consumers, including families and individuals, plan for the future.

Ms Webb commented: "The range of housing options, especially for people who cannot afford to purchase outright, are expanding and becoming increasingly complex."

According to the CIH, many people believe that housing advice is only available for those in crisis, but it could help those in less-acute situations as well.

The drive to encourage more people to seek advice was echoed by mortgage firm John Charcol, which recently suggested that those looking for a mortgage in the current climate should seek advice and not panic in the face of daunting options.
