MoneyExpert.com - Drivers can 'take action' to reduce insurance cost - 08/01/2008

There are a number of ways to reduce the cost of car insurance, according to Norwich Union.

The insurance company recommended looking online for the best quote as many providers offer a ten per cent discount for internet purchases.

It also advised putting partners or spouses on the policy as if they have a clean licence, insurers can sometimes give a discount for that.

In addition, the firm warned drivers who own more than one vehicle to consider whether they actually need courtesy car cover.

Erik Nelson of Norwich Union also explained that the firm's Pay As You Drive insurance scheme could save people money.

Commenting on the scheme, Mr Nelson said: "We can price accordingly. For most people, what we're seeing is that they're saving around 30 per cent on average. It's early days but interest is growing."

The firm notes that motorists can save up to 30 per cent on car insurance policies if they drive less than 6,000 miles.
