MoneyExpert.com - Green car insurance may help offset emissions - 11/07/2007

Drivers and car insurance customers concerned about the effect that their vehicle has on the environment might like to consider getting their cover from a company that offers green policies.

One example is carbon neutral insurance, which is where a company assesses its entire carbon footprint and offsets that by funding environmental projects.

In addition, some allow customers to go a step further and make provision for offsetting the carbon emissions of the vehicle being insured.

According to David Douglas of the Environmental Transport Association, this means that "the whole process then becomes carbon neutral".

He explained that the benefit of obtaining green cover is that the buyer is "giving money to a company that's ploughing it all back into the planet, rather than a corporation that's serving the shareholders".

In addition to the Environmental Transport Association, other companies that offer green car insurance products include Co-operative Insurance, More Than and swiftcover.com.
