Car insurance customers may be interested in the findings of a study by the Royal Automobile Club Foundation (RACF).

The body conducted an investigation to find out whether the colour of a vehicle had any effect on its likelihood of becoming involved in an accident.

And it found that there was some correlation between certain colours and high accident rates.

In daytime driving, silver vehicles were on average 10 per cent more likely to become involved in an accident than white vehicles.

Black vehicles were ten per cent more likely to be involved in a crash than their white counterparts.

Interestingly - and a little ironically - the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders shows that silver and black are the two most popular car colours in Britain.

According to the RACF, no colour was statistically safer than white, which may prompt some drivers concerned about retaining the no-claims bonus on their car insurance premium to consider the colour for their next car.
