MoneyExpert.com - Co-op launches ethical student account - 22/06/2007

Co-operative Financial Services has announced the launch of an ethical student account product.

According to the bank, the current account
was designed as a result of rising demand for eco-friendly products.

The bank recently conducted research that found eight in ten people would prefer an eco-friendly product to a non-eco friendly product.

Most people stated that they would make the choice based on a desire to "do their bit" towards combating climate change.

A spokeswoman for the bank said that customers are "in general" becoming more aware of ethical issues and take advantage of opportunities to integrate that into their banking activities, such as choice of current account
.

She added: "When choosing a student account it is important for students to look at the complete package, rather than just focusing on free gifts."

The account provides 3.04 per cent AER interest and comes with a free overdraft of up to £2000.
