Advice concerning credit card use abroad has been compiled in a new guide from the Association of British travel Agents and Apacs, the UK's payments association.

The guidance includes tips on what fees credit card users may occur if they spend on plastic while on holiday.

Furthermore, the information advises holidaymakers to remain vigilant against fraud.

Director of communications at Apacs Sandra Quinn urged Britons to be careful when holidaying this summer.

"As a nation we are all using our cards more frequently abroad so it pays to be aware of any extra costs that may be incurred for using them overseas, as well as taking steps to protect them from fraud," she stated.

In 2007, 50 per cent of all spending overseas by Brits was paid for by credit cards, according to Apacs figures.

Chris Tapp, the director of Credit Action, recently called for homeowners to ensure they do not rely too much on credit cards to pay their household bills.
